2008 USPA National Collegiate Parachuting Championships

Skydive Spaceland is excited to be hosting the 2008 USPA National Collegiate Parachuting Championships! Check out the links below for more information on the competition, and let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to having you here!

Registration

Register individuals/teams on-site on Dec. 28 by 5 p.m. The competitor briefing will begin at 7 p.m.  (Online registration coming soon!)

Don't forget to show up early for free coaching from world-class coaches! 4-way seminar on evening of Dec. 27th.

Schedule

Specific dates for each event will be announced soon. The order of events is as follows:

  1. Event No. 1—4-Way Formation Skydiving: Open and Advanced
  2. Event No. 2—2-Way Formation Skydiving
  3. Event No. 3—Individual Accuracy Landing
  4. Event No. 4—Team Accuracy
  5. Event No. 5—Sport Accuracy
  6. Event No. 6—2-way Vertical Formation Skydiving
  7. Event No. 7—6-Way Speed

Fees

General Entry Fee:          (includes banquet, event T-shirt, medals)

Registration Fees:        $50 per person 

Event fees:                       (sanction fees to USPA, judging fee’s and other cost involved)

First event:                   $30 per person
Each additional event:  $15 per person

Additional per-event fees:

  • Accuracy:  $11 per jump
  • Sport Accuracy:  $12 per jump
  • 2-way Formation Skydiving: $18 per slot.  Price is based on 3 rounds from 10,500. 
  • 4-way Formation Skydiving: $18 per slot.  Price is based on 6 rounds from 10,500. 
  • 6-way Speed Formation Skydiving: $20 per slot.  Price based on 3 rounds from 11,000 feet. 
  • Freefly: $20 per slot.  Price is based on 4 rounds from 13,000. 

Practice Jumps

  • Accuracy: $11 per jump.
  • Sport Accuracy: $12 per jump.
  • 10,500': $18 per jump.
  • 11,000': $20 per jump.
  • 13,000': $20 per jump.

Free Coaching!

During the 2008 USPA National Collegiate Parachuting Championships, expert coaches in formation skydiving and freeflying (names to be announced later) will be available to offer FREE advice to competitors. Coaching will be available the weekend before the event as well, so show up early and take advantage of free coaching from world-class coaches!

Packing/ Rigging/ Gear

Currently we have a 14,000 sq. ft. hangar with 8,000 sq. ft. of carpeted, climate-controlled packing and training rooms. Hangar space will also be carpeted for extra packing area. Packers are available.

HangarBriefing and Seminar Area

The 14,000 sq. ft. indoor hangar will be the briefing area for all events, and will also house any seminars. 

Food Services

Spaceland's hangar houses an upstairs café with a bar. Newly remodeled, the café has great food, good drinks, a flat screen HD TV with surround sound, and a small stage for karaoke. We also have an upper deck outside of the café overlooking the landing area for spectators' viewing pleasure. Additional vendor stations will be set up on the first floor for quick snacks and drinks.

Nearby restaurants aren't close enough to pop out for a quick lunch, but there are many choices in Pearland (about 20 minutes away) and Angleton (about 15 minutes away).

Creeping Area

We have two large concrete creeping areas that will accommodate 12 2-way teams or 8 4-way teams. Fifty Thunderbolt creepers are available for competitors' use.

Lodging

Hotels/ Motels

Within a fifteen-minute drive there are over 10 hotels in three different towns. If you're looking for excitement and nightlife, downtown Houston is only 25 miles from the DZ.  Special discounts for skydivers have been arranged with several hotels; for a comprehensive list along with rates and contact information, please see our hotels page.

Camping & Bunkhouse

Skydive Spaceland has a private camping area that encompasses a 2-acre, aquifer-fed pond complete with a water fountain and 12 temporary RV slots exclusively for traveling guests.  Our bunkhouse is located right next to the main hangar.  It sleeps up to 8 people, plus it's climate-controlled and has a TV and DVD player for late night movies.

Rates:

  • Camping: Free
  • Bunkhouse: $8/night. Call 281/369-3337 for reservations.
  • RV slots: $20/night for electric-only hookups. Call 281/369-3337 for reservations.

On-Site Shower Facilities

Skydive Spaceland has on-site shower facilities and restrooms that are cleaned daily and are handicap-accessible. Two showers are located in each restroom and each boasts their own private dressing area and hot and cold water. These showers and restrooms are available 24 hours a day. We will bring in additional portable toilet facilities for the meet.

Tourist Attractions

Spaceland is 25 min. from downtown Houston, the fourth largest city in the U.S.  There are many attractions to help submerse you in the Texas culture.  A few attractions are NASA's mission control, Moody Gardens and a flight museum in Galveston and plenty of plays, museums and sports teams in downtown Houston.
