Texas Skydiving League Rules

We will use all rules as they apply at the current year's USPA Nationals except as noted herein.

Briefing

These TSL meets are a great opportunity to train for the USPA Nationals, which will be held at Skydive Spaceland in October. They are also a great way to track your improvement progress throughout the season. There is so much to learn and the competitive environment brings out the best skydiver in each of us. The draw will be posted after jumping hours on the Friday evening prior to the competition. The draw will be available at the DZ and also on www.skyleague.com. The briefing will start at 8am the day of the competition.

Meets

We will have all of the meets on Saturdays and Sundays. The competitions will be 1 - 6 rounds, depending on weather (The meet could be decided in as little as one complete round). Our goal will be to complete 6 rounds of 4-Way on Saturday. We will compete on Sunday if needed. If we experience weather problems, we may limit the 4-way competition to the highest number of rounds completed by all teams. Final competition decisions and schedules will be the decision of the league director.

Divisions

The TSL 4-Way event will have 3 divisions, Open, Intermediate, and Rookie. Medals will be distributed in each division to the top 3 finishers in raw score. The Handicap competition spans all divisions and the top team will receive medals. The winners of the raw score, Open division, will be considered the TSL Champions.

Each team must choose the division they will compete in. Each team should choose the division they will/would use at the USPA Nationals. Teams will declare which division they will be in before the beginning of the season.

Open Class: will draw from ALL blocks and ALL randoms.
Intermediate Class: will draw from all blocks EXCEPT 3, 5, 10, 12, 16, and 17 and ALL randoms.
Rookie Class: will ONLY draw from and do ALL randoms.

USPA's Skydiver Competition Manual can be viewed here and contains all blocks and randoms starting on page 63: Competition Manual

Video

Having your own camera person will definitely help but it will not be mandatory. We will have a camera pool. Teams will be financially responsible for their own video person.

Substitutions

Personnel substitutions will be allowed... Your TEAM is registered, not specific people. The purpose of this is to make it easier to have all teams present at every meet. This may also serve as a good way to try-out possible alternates for your team. This rule should not be abused. If it is, action may be taken by the league director.

Scoring

Standings in the League will be determined by points distributed after each meet. The first place team at each meet will get 20 league points, 2nd place 19 league points, third place 18 league points and so on. A team must compete to receive league points, no show = 0 points. This is why substitutes will be better than missing a meet completely.

Each team will be allowed to drop their lowest meet score... However, teams will receive a bonus .5 point per round in the Championship Meet for each regular season meet they attend. (If your team makes all the meets you will receive an extra 2.5 handicap and raw points in the Championship (.5 points for each of the 5 meets preceding the championship meet.) These points will be added to handicap AND raw scores. Teams are strongly encouraged to make ALL the meets. Missing a meet will make it more difficult to win the League Championship or any specific category.

Championship Meet

Each team must compete in at least 4 meets (2 meets for 8-way) to be eligible for TSL awards and advancement to the NSL Championships.

League points in the Championship Meet (last meet of the season) will be doubled. The team with the highest season league point total after the Championship meet will be the TSL Champion (in the Open Class, non-handicap division). Texas League Medals will be awarded to the top 3 teams in each category.

Handicap

For a team to be eligible to win the handicap portion of the meet, they must have competed with the same 4 members that were at the previous meet. i.e.: If your team wins the handicap portion of meet 4, the meet 4 members must not have changed from meet 3.

Guest teams do not compete in the handicap competition.

How Does Handicapping Work?

  • The team with the highest per-round point average (season-to-date) has a zero handicap.
  • All other teams are then given the difference between their point average and the highest average as a per round handicap.
  • The Handicap competition stretches across ALL DIVISIONS.
  • The handicap winner at the end of the season will receive a medal.

Handicap Scoring Example

Team X has a season average of 15 at the start of meet 2. They have the highest average of any of the open or intermediate teams.
AND
Team Y has a season average of 10 at the start of meet 2.
RESULT
Team Y would be given a 5 point handicap on top of their raw score in each round. The total of this in all rounds would be their total handicap score.
