Skydive Spaceland News: Of people, planes, and parachutes flying near Houston, Texas
Today's Skydive Spaceland News: April 22, 2009
2007 Texas State Record

The Texas Skydiving Record and Boogie has begun!

All skydivers and friends/spectators are welcome to attend.

OK, so it's a weekday. So what? Things are hopping at Skydive Spaceland this week with the TSR record event going on, the Golden Knights training, and all kinds of aircraft for you to play with! Right now we have SEVEN Otters and a Casa on site, and a helicopter coming in for the weekend. What better time to call in sick? Come on out and play with your friends or do a little training, there are still plenty of loads flying tandems, students, and experienced jumpers between the record jumps!

Texas State Record dirt divePlus there's plenty of stuff to watch with the TSR going on and nearly 200 skydivers preparing to break the 150-way state record we set in 2007. We're going for a challenging WORLD RECORD, 2-point 160-way formation! A fleet of 7 aircraft will fly in formation at 20,000 feet and drop 160 skydivers, who will link up in a choreographed formation before opening their parachutes and landing in front of hundreds of excited spectators. This will be an incredible sight!

Can't make it out but still want to stay in the loop? Make sure to check out Skydive Spaceland's new blog, which will keep you in the know about the record's progress, along with the rest of the boogie happenings!

HelicopterTSR Boogie: CASAs, Otters, and a Chopper!

Outside of this record, other activities are scheduled for ALL skydivers regardless of experience levels from April 22-26. Skydive Spaceland in conjunction with the Texas Anvil Brothers has created the TSR Boogie. The infrastructure is in place for a great time. There are plenty of aircraft to jump including 6 Twin Otters and a CASA. The CASA is a tailgate aircraft so when the light turns green, just start running right out the back of this huge door. This exit is a totally different feeling and another bonus of the CASA... large objects can be staged and chunked right out the back. Can anyone say "Raft Dives"!!!!!

Helicopter: Have you ever flown in or jumped out of a helicopter? Well, this is your chance. Next Saturday, Apr. 25, we will have a helicopter to jump. Talking about a different type of exit, jumping a heli is a trip. Sub-terminal exits will really give you that falling sensation, so come out and try it. We can also give helicopter rides to friends and family who don't want to jump out.

TSR Boogie: Organizing

We've arranged for several organizers to be here so you should be able to get on any type of dive that you want. DE "the toy man" MO (Demo) will be here organizing ZOO loads and toy dives, and Brian Ball and Leah Blache will also be here to suit your needs. From learning specific techniques to just going out and having a blast, we have something for you!

Wingsuit flyersTSR Boogie: Wingsuit Academy!

"What if we want to learn about wingsuits?" Ha, you thought you had me. :-) Jenn Hinson will be here to teach you about "extended flight time" opportunities. Jenn along with the Texas Wingsuit Academy will have wingsuits of all sizes and types from beginner to advanced. If you're an experienced wingsuiter or just want to learn more about it, come out next weekend. Jenn will also be giving an intro seminar and class on Friday night. Please email her and let her you're your coming and also how many jumps you are looking to do: jenn.hinson@gmail.com

TSR Boogie: PARRR-TAY!!

Last but not least, there will be the "Anvilishis" party! Each evening we will be hanging out, but the serious partying starts on Friday night. There will be plenty of food and music for all at the pond. Now Saturday's the spotlight for the after-hours activities. We will have the Anvil-famous BBQ dinner at the pond, a great live band, bonfire and crazy anvil antics. Did I mention FREE BEER? Oh, now you know you'll be here!

There are several RV slots left (email manifest to reserve one) and lots of camping space, so come out, make some jumps and party with us. We are looking forward to a great event and we'd love to have you and your friends join for this record-breaking weekend. Please FORWARD this to your friends and tell them all to join you for a fun-filled weekend April 24-26.

Tandem landingTSR Boogie: Room for Tandems and Students Too!

During the boogie, it won't all be about the experienced jumpers! There will be plenty of room for tandem skydivers and students in the Skydiver Training Program to play in the sky with us. So if you'd like to come on out for a tandem or training skydive, or have some friends who would, bring it on! Just make sure to contact manifest to let us know when to expect you (and how many of you there will be). Call 1-800-SKY-DIVE or 281-369-3337 or email manifest.

PD Weekend May 8-10

Join us in welcoming the PD tour at Skydive Spaceland May 8-10! They will be bringing demo canopies of various models and sizes that you can take for a jump--reserves too! (If you've never jumped your reserve before, haven't you always wanted to know how it flies?)

It doesn't matter what your experience level is, there will be something for you to jump. This will be a great time to check out the new Pulse. So whether you're looking for a better understanding of the product line, new packing tips or to fly a different canopy, don't miss out on this opportunity!

Have fun and play safe! We look forward to seeing you soon at Skydive Spaceland!
